In the Spotlight & Contest

Missy Jane

CONTEST: One commenter will receive a free download of my book, They Call Me Death. Make sure to leave you email for a chance to win.

AL: Hi Missy! Thanks for being in the “Author Spotlight” this week.

Missy: Thank you! I’m thrilled to be here.

AL: So, tell us what’s happening with you.

Missy: Well I work a full time job, other than writing, and have four daughters who are now on summer break. So, other than no sleep and wanting to pull my hair out…not much.

AL: What current or upcoming releases do you have for us to “shift” into?

Missy: Heehee, my current release has some great “shifting”, it’s titled They Call Me Death.

AL: It appears “They Call Me Death” is your first release. So far, what do you like best about the writing world? What do you like least?

Missy: I love writing as an outlet for my overactive imagination and I LOVE hearing from readers who say they enjoy what I’ve written. Least? I don’t really know. I’ve been very fortunate to meet a lot of wonderful people since I stepped into the writing world, on all sides of production.

AL: What was the defining moment when you realized you wanted to be a writer?

Missy: Hmm, that’s a hard one. I don’t know that there was a defining moment to become a writer, but attending the 2008 Romantic Times convention is what really got me motivated to get serious and submit my work to a publisher.

AL: What do you hope for your writing career in the next few years? What are the goals that you have yet to obtain that you have set for yourself?

Missy: Well, I really enjoy my job (odd, I know), so I’m not concerned with making writing my full time career at the moment. My short-term goal would have to be getting the full series published set in my world of Shape-shifters. I’ve fallen in love with my characters and want to tell all of their stories.

AL: Now it’s time to get personal! J You’re snowed in for a week in the Swiss Alps. You’ve enough firewood and food to get you through the blizzard raging outside. What are three things that you would have to have with you?

Missy: Things? Does Jason Statham count? Okay, seriously…I’d go with my camera (I’ve been a photographer for twenty years), my collection of Metallica CDs (my faves!) and a good long book that I haven’t read yet. There are quite a few that fall into that category so that would take a lot more thought.

AL: What favorite movie; or T.V. show makes you hunker down on the sofa and settle in for the night?

Missy: I don’t watch tv at all, but try to never miss an airing of The Wizard of Oz or Gone with the Wind.

AL: You’re the actress in a must see blockbuster movie that everyone’s been waiting all summer for. What’s the movie about? Who’s your character? And who’s your leading man?

Missy: It would definitely have to be an action movie, Jason Statham of course would be my leading man. I’d be a woman of mystery who can kick butt without messing up my hair.

AL: If you could have any car in the world; would it be a slow rider, or one that the wind has to hurry just to keep up with you?

Missy: Actually my dream car is an original Humvee, I like the idea of being able to run over any obstacle.

AL: Please share a favorite quote(s) with us.

Missy: “I was an infinitely hot and dense dot”- Mark Leyner (My Cousin, My Gastroenterologist)

AL: Thanks so much for sharing and joining us this week, Missy.

Missy: Thank you! I had a blast and it was a wonderful way to spend my birthday, June 15th! Feel free to send cards and chocolate ;)

FEATURED TITLE:

Blurb:
Humans are no longer at the top of the food chain…

My name is Alexia Williams. In my world, North America is divided between north and south—but not the way it’s taught in the history books.
After losing my family to the shifters, I joined the Combined Human States Army. Now I find myself on the front lines, defending the wall between my species and theirs. My mission is simple: keep the animals on their side by whatever means necessary—and I’m good at it. I don’t talk to them. I don’t sympathize with them. I sure as hell don’t admire them…until one saves my life.

Andor isn’t like any shifter I’ve ever met. He’s a three-hundred-year-old golden eagle asking for help finding missing shifters who may be in my lands. I just have to decide between helping the animals or ignoring signs that my fellow humans aren’t what I thought they were. But how can I help a species I hate and fear? Even if Andor makes me feel alive again? In the land of the shifters…they call me Death.
Excerpt:
"Show me." He looked at me, doubt clear on his face as heunsuccessfully tried to suppress a grin. "Show me, Andor. I won'tfreak out this time."

He sighed and rubbed his face. I looked at how large his handsappeared and wondered why I stood with a shifter I barely knew in myspace. The feel of my Glock still in my hand reassured me.

"Would it be too much to ask for you to place your gun…somewhereelse?"
I considered it, but not for long.

"Yes. I shower and sleep with my gun, Andor."

He grinned and nodded in understanding. He took a step away frommy sofa into a clearer area of the room, removed his coat and shirtand dropped them to the floor. His wings instantly unfurled from hisbody, spreading across the room. I looked him over, and everythingelse about him remained human, or as human as usual. I took a steptoward him before I realized what I was doing. Placing my cup on thecounter, I stretched my hand toward the tip of his wing and Andorfroze. I touched the feathers tentatively at first, amazed at thesheer size of each one. They were soft and beautiful. I had a deepdesire to see them in full sunlight, wondering if they would shinelike gold.

I heard Andor's breathing speed up, as if he were panting fromphysical exertion. I still had my hand on his right wing when Iturned to look at his face. He was watching me with completely maleinterest, and I became self-conscious."Can you feel this?" I asked, as I ran my fingers lightly over afeather.
"Y-yes."

There are some spaces missing, edit? Also, I love shifter stories too, Christine Feehan's somehow became less interesting to me but I love i.e. Yasmine Galenorn's Sisters of the Moon. Looking forward to reading your e-book :)

p.s. Is this one a LooseID one too?

Hi everyone. Thanks so much for stopping by.

Missy Jane: I hope you had a happy birthday and it was a nice way to spend it with all the posters.

Sandie: Thanks for posting a great recommended ready for Missy Jane.

Rodrigosz: Missy Jane's book is available at Samhain Publishing and as far as your edit question, the spacing is a glitch with blogger. I have the spaces, but when it posts it posts without them in that specific area. Thanks for pointing that out...I think.
